Children in an Age of Austerity
Children in an Age of Austerity is a report by Advice Nottingham, a consortium of advice agencies in Nottingham. The report focuses on the impact of welfare reform on families with dependent children. Drawing on case studies from Advice Nottingham clients, the report demonstrates the impact of under-occupancy penalties – the ‘bedroom tax’ –, changes to council tax support, changes to disability benefits and problems with benefit administration. The cumulative effects of these changes are leaving some families with little money and some are reliant on food banks to feed their children. The report also includes information from some local schools and commentary from Baroness Ruth Lister and Professor Aoife Nolan, both experts in their field. The report is available on the AN website.
